About the city
Rennes is a city of northwestern France, in the east of Brittany. It is the capital of the Bretagne région, as well as the préfecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine département. The ancient centre of the town is built on a hill, with the north side being more elevated than the south side. It is at the confluence of two rivers: the Ille and the Vilaine.

Most bars in Rennes are on rue Saint-Michel, significantly nicknamed road of thirst (rue de la soif). The equivalent for restaurants is rue de St Malo.
