About the city

Rennes is a city of northwestern France, in the east of Brittany. It is the capital of the Bretagne région, as well as the préfecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine département. The ancient centre of the town is built on a hill, with the north side being more elevated than the south side. It is at the confluence of two rivers: the Ille and the Vilaine.

Restaurants and nightlife

Most bars in Rennes are on rue Saint-Michel, significantly nicknamed road of thirst (rue de la soif). The equivalent for restaurants is rue de St Malo.

Shopping preview in Rennes

Rennes’ specialties are highly sought, but as they generally fall into the food category, they don’t quite qualify as shopping purposes. Still, here are a few of the local delicacies that gently combine eating and shopping in Rennes: Kouing Amann, Quatre quart, half-salty butter and caramels au beurre salé.
